I am a physician and owner of my own practice in a small rural town in lower Alabama. I try to be very green in a part of the country where it is very difficult to convince others of its value. I keep trying. I recycle everything I can. I don’t buy bottled water anymore. I won’t buy anymore styrofoam plates or plastic utensils for the office. I bought some dishes at the Goodwill store and brought some old silverware from home for everyone to use at the office. They can wash their own dishes! I carry my own bag to the store and buy locally grown, in season produce. I save boxes and packing materials for re-use when I sell things on eBay. I often buy clothes at the Goodwill or other thrift stores, not just to save money, but for the recycling value. I refuse to buy any new gold because of the way it is mined. I have my own garden and grow some vegetables and herbs. This will escalate to a full vegetable and herb garden when I retire. My ideal retirement home will be totally green. It will probably be straw and be powered by solar panels and by windmills. I hope to sell power back to the electric company, being totally off the grid. I will have goats to “mow” the grass. I will have many other animals as well. I am looking forward to this day. P.S. The picture is a joke. I’m actually quite young and beautiful.
