I became environmentally active in 1988 while I was still in school. I composted biodegradeable garbage and recycled and reused everything, though people treated me like I was a survivor from the depression. After I got married and started a family my level of concern remained and I encouraged environmental stewarship among the debate teams I coached. We have renewed our level of activity to go green at home. We now have replaced most of the light bulbs in our home with compact fluorescents, installed a high efficiency furnace, raise our own vegetables and compost, recycle what we can, replaced the pickup with a Civic and we use recycled building materials in the restoration of our home whenever we can find them. We’ve started taking our own water to work to eliminate disposable bottles and we just started taking reusable bags to the store.
