Noreen, I was wondering if you were still fretting about doubling your “bulb” challange. The challenge is only for 3 bulbs. If you changed the entire house of 21 bulbs shouldn’t you get to take the challenge 7 times!

HI Team! I have continued with my former challenges but thought I’d get credit for them. Some of the challenges I already implemented prior to joining the team. I didn’t take credit for them since I have had the habits for some time and technically am not ‘saving carbon (still I am saving $.) I read some great books from the depression and loved how they managed to stretch and save which we could learn a lot from in our current society. Zach, I love the gray water idea and would appreciate that information. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a fabric softener that doesn’t coat your towels but allows for line drying with out them being kinda scratchy. I have some very high quality towels, but still it has been tough to resist drying them since on the line, they lack ‘cuddly’ softness. Thank team!

Mom, what are you trying to say? That since your house is so big that you should get the double bulb credit? I’m confused by your logic?

Curt managed to double-accept the lightbulb challenge too… not sure how ya guys are even doing that! guess you’re just oddities! (heh, we knew that already!) ;-D

I’ve been doing some serious thinking about the Bulb challenge. I think I double accepted the challenge because of my huge house. I know I have been changing light bulbs like crazy. Edison subsidized the energy efficent ones so they only cost $1 each! But I will delete one challenge if you guys think it’s appropriate.

Geez! I’d better pick up my pace. I’m towards the bottom of the list.

Wade, hanging the clothes inside, this makes more sense. I was having a hard time picturing your neighbors being ok with a clothes line outside your front door.

Anyone want to join a mini challenge with me? It’s not listed as an official challenge but going to try and do it. I’m switching to cloth napkins and trying to eliminate as much paper towell usage. Who wants to join me??

I feel I should to verify Wade and his laundry habits… YES! He really does at least 2 loads a week all by himself that hang to dry. Our doorways are always filled. I guess i should also remind him to re-up his “leave the car at home” challenge every week…

I actually took on some challenges last week but inadvertantly didn’t join the team. Sorry about that but the oversight has been rectified. I am an official team player!

Don’t hate me because my load of cycling clothes says line dry. I’ve got more spandex hanging up in my door than most girls. To keep up my end of stick I’ve even hung up my socks.

The short answer: cloth is best, 100% recycled paper is next. Anyone up to the challenge of eliminating their paper napkins and paper towels in favor of cloth?

Ultimately, whether you believe in it or not I’m glad that you are a part of our team to help reduce waste and maximize our dwindling resources. Very cool concept, Zach. Makes sense for SoCalifornians. We are in a drought right now and no one seems to know it! This use of recycling grey water would be a great tool for us out here. Don’t know anyone building a house, but Curt asked me the other day if I’d be into a “green” house if we ever bought land. One day… far, far in the future perhaps.

Okay. Finally accepted some challenges. I will point out, sister dear, that I chose 4 and not just 1. Now Kathleen needs to get on the ball…after she’s over the flu.

is anyone building a new house any time soon? or know anyone who is? If so, on the radio today, I heard about a kind of company that will install a system that collects all the “grey” water (from showers, dishwasher, washing machine, etc) and uses this water to flush toilets (maybe other things too, but that’s all I can remember). The average payback to install this system in new home construction is only 2 years…meaning after two years you are making money and helping conserve resources. So even for those who give a rats ass about this stuff, it’s still a smart financial decision. It sounded like a great private market idea and I wanted to pass it along.
