http://www.goodguide.com <br><br> This website gives ratings to products based on environmental, health, and social impacts of producing, distributing, and using each product. The products are given ratings from 0 to 10, with 10 being the best and 0 being the worst. The products rated on the site are divided into these categories: Food, Personal Care, Household Chemicals, and Toys. They do encourage suggestions for new categories.

You've all probably heard the saying that goes, "One man's trash is another man's treasure," but have you ever given it some serious thought? A lot of people take advantage of curbside paper, plastic, and aluminum recycling (and if you don't, you should), but we often forget one of the most important ways to recycle: thrift stores. <br>Thrift shops are not only for the poor. They prevent a great deal of still useful items from ending up in landfills. Next time you are looking for a unique gift or need a new outfit, remember to check your local thrift stores.<br><br>Websites for thrifty people:<br><br> www.freecycle.org <br>Find and get rid of items locally, everything is free <br><br> www.garagesalehunter.com<br>Find garagesales in your area<br><br> www.undermycrib.com<br>Buy, sell, trade used Baby items<br><br> www.swaptree.com<br> Trade books, music, movies, and games<br><br> www.makeupalley.com<br> Trade cosmetics and personal care products, all items must be unopened and in the original container<br><br>www.swapstyle.com<br>Buy, sell, and trade clothing shoes and accessories

http://www.wecansolveit.org This is another website that brings people together to stop global warming. It focuses more on what actions we can take as a whole more than individual effort. They have a really neat quiz about the source of energy in the U.S. You can click this link to take it. http://quiz.wecansolveit.org/

I wanted to tell you guys about this really great website where you can learn about whats in the food we eat and the water we drink and you can take action to improve the quality by signing petitions and writing letters. Its not exactly carbon-footprint related, but it does have a pro-environment/pro-health theme. http://www.foodandwaterwatch.org

This is for those of you curious about the idea of using algae as a fuel source. It is basically filters carbon dioxide out of the air and recycles it back into fuel we can use. Technology exists right now to cultivate algae that can be used as fuel, using human and animal waste as fertilizer. Algae's carbon-absorbing potential could be an advantage. Each 100 million gallons of ethanol from algae will absorb about 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. Enough algae can be grown to replace all transportation fuels in the U.S. on only 15,000 square miles, or 4.5 million acres of land. That's about the size of Maryland. Algae as Biodiesel: Algae grows so fast, it can produce 15,000 gallons of biodiesel per acre. Only 60 gallons are produced from soybeans, which along with corn are the major biodiesel crops today. Research at leading universities suggests that algae could supply enough fuel to meet all of America's transportation needs in the form of biodiesel... using a scant 0.2% of the nation's land. Algae as Ethanol: One company, Algenol, estimates it can make 6,000 gallons of ethanol from an acre of land. If all US ethanol was made from algae it would only use 3 percent of the land that corn needs to make the fuel. Here are some websites for more info: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/2006-01-10-algae-powerplants_x.htm http://www.planetark.com/dailynewsstory.cfm/newsid/48749/story.htm http://www.greenchipstocks.com/aqx_p/2575?gclid=CPqwst7z-ZMCFQEQGgodyEbRWw
