Now That's a Wrap

This suggestion has been promoted to the "Wrap a Few in Newspaper" challenge!

Avoid wrapping presents with new wrapping paper and other fancy paper. Instead use newspaper or another recycled material. Afterall, all you really want is the gift inside.

I like your idea best, and since we no longer receive a newspaper and seldom run across any other fancy paper we can reuse, we watch for folks giving away gift wrap on Freecycle. We have received some very nice wrapping paper that otherwise might have found its way into the dumpster. My daughter gave me a present in a Wrapsack (Wrapsacks.com) she had received from a friend, who had it from another friend. I love these. You can track the sack online to see who has received it all the way back to first giftee/gifter. It's a wonderful way to pay it forward.

I like wrapping presents in fabric and second hand ribbon. It can look really lovely and feels great.

I wrapped the gifts in aluminum foil and attached holiday cards (front of card) that had been sent to me over the years to make it more decorative. In this way, all wrapping material including cards can be recycled. Better to buy aluminum foil that states on the package that has been made from recycled aluminum. I have seen some brown paper bags that were used by friends and painted with holiday scenes.

That's a great idea actually. I did that for my moms christmas present this year. She laughed a little but in the end i was able to reuse a newspaper that I would of just recycled anyway. Also, she forgot about the newspaper wrapping after seeing her expensive purse that I got her

A really cool thing to do, though it is still the newspaper, is to wrap it in comics!

I tried this suggestion once, and it was really messy--the paper isn't as strong as wrapping paper, and the ink from the paper gets all over the place--not only on your hands when you wrap the gift, but on the recipient's hands when he/she unwraps it. Nice idea, but in my opinion, re-usable gift boxes or bags are the better way to go.

Bags... We buy gift bags. If you don't close them, or use tape that's not going to ruin the bag, it lives on. And gets reused.
