my mechanical pencils have never broken...how does that happen?plus theres metal on wood pencils that wont decompose.

I suggest using wood over mechanical. Wood will decompose over time when it gets to a landfill, and if it is in the form of shavings, it will decompose significantly faster. When a mechanical pencil breaks, and it gets thrown away, the plastic will remain in the landfil forever!
