Ha ha, I’ve been doing this for well more than a year now – but more because I got sick of all the paper instead of trying to go green… and if you pick this for certain student loans, you also get the added bonus of getting a reduction of fees for your “trouble.”

For those who do not have the confidence in this, I recommend backing up your online statements to a memory stick for safe keeping and for the actual important statements that people receive about once a year (the monthly ones aren’t too-too important) if it makes you feel better, go ahead and print out one (hopefully on 100% post-consumer recycled paper and be sure to use both sides if it isn’t already considered scrap paper) for your records.

If you are worried about passwords, then do what I do – keep a small notebook to fill with passwords, security information, etc., as needed. People have to remember so many passwords and pin codes these days it just makes sense to do this… and remember to use pencil to make updates easy, such as when you want to change your password for a specific site.

I was looking into this today. My bank pays me $10 to switch to paying bills online.I’m going for it. Less paper is always good.

Funny thing is…I do online bill pay and still receive statements by mail sometimes.Oh well…

In response to the recommendor Miri,I need the confidence to pay the bills and such financial stuff on-line, but I am afraid that I will lose this information. Your mother

This is a really good idea. I actually don’t know how to do this, so it’d be cool if this were a challenge and I could get instructions… man, Carbonrally should make a “for dummies” book, haha.

there’s so many votes for this! why hasnt it been upgraded to a challenge yet?

We do this with everything – bank statements, Investments, bill-pay… It took several companies 3 plus months to quit sending paper statements, the waste was pretty irritating but now we are on target.

I just did this for both me and my husband. Easy and quick. A similar service for catalogs is available for free at catalogchoice.org . My junkmail is now down to a trickle.

I switched a few a long time ago, but still had 3 in paper I didn’t need. They don’t make as easy as I would have thought to go paperless. IE – you have to sign up with acct., create user, password. etc and even still might get paper for a while. Some were easier than others, but I’m tired of tossing paper I don’t need into the recycle bin two minutes after I look at it.

with the amount of identity theft out there that can happen when people go through garbage, or steal papers from your house when doing a simple package delivery etc. this is one more step you can take to help protect yourself. So many benefits.

When ever I can, I request electronic statements. Man has the mail been dratically reduced.

At our work they even moved to electronic pay stubs and W-2’s. It’s great because they’re easily accessible, but I don’t have to worry about filing them or misplacing them. And, they’re totally secure.

Yeah, I never look at the statements anyways. I bet their is some real CO2 saving per year too with 12 months worth of paper, printing and transport for those bills.
